Portraits - Authors of Murder

This is a portrait series on British crime writers and appeared in a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London Nov 2002 - March 2003.
All the images are now in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Authors of Murder

The intention of this series is to see who is behind all these paper deaths.

These are not the normal portraits for publicity, they are taken all under the same conditions and the writers make their own statement visually as they do on paper

The portraits will be accompanied by the following, which is filled in by each writer and interpreted in any way they have seen fit
1) Their favourite quote that they have written about murder
2) Their estimate of the number of people who have died in their books
3) Their favourite means of murder.

The Authors are broad cross section of all types and successes.
including: Martina Cole, Nicci French (both), Colin Dexter, Ian Rankin, Minette Walters, PJ James, H.R.F Keating, Stella Duffy....
